The Fast and Furious World of Engineers
As KHS students mature closer and closer to adulthood, what to do as a profession becomes more and more important. One option is an Engineer. A student that wants to be an engineer needs to know that there is a lot of stuff that has to be done to become part of this profession. Glenn Putnam is an engineer in Alvord, Texas and said that his interest in becoming an engineer began in 1993. His favorite part of engineering is problem solving, because it’s kind of like digital logic. Putnam said that in high school one should do the STEM program if you want to become a successful engineer. Going through all the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics classes will help in future engineering jobs like computer programming. Besides the STEM classes, there is nothing specific to do in high school besides finding a good engineering college. There are many strenuous classes to take in college, like Physics, English, History, Motors, Statistics, Fluid Dynamics, Materials, and Vibrations. For some jobs like commissioning engineering at Brandt engineering, it is recommended that you graduate with a bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Putnam, who is the Uncle of KHS Sophomore Payton Pratt, has worked on several huge projects since entering the Engineering field. “I worked on 2.7 million square foot building for Parkland Hospital,” said Putnam. “It cost 2.3 billion dollars.”
