KHS Survey on Favorite Music Genres
When it comes to music there isn’t just one genre or style,and not everyone likes to listen to the same type of music. But which is the most listened to by the students of Krum High? Classical Rock/Rock music contains sub-genres, is much more faster and louder than other genres. The Rock sound is sometimes heavier, with electric guitars being used the majority of the time. “Rock from the 70's and 80's is a lot better than our current music,” said a sophomore named Justin According to a survey of KHS students, 33% of Bobcats prefer Rock to other genres. Country finished a close second with 27% saying it is their favorite genre.. Junior Emma Zavishlak is one of many that prefers country music. This genre is usually songs about romance or melancholy ballads accompanied by acoustic or electric guitar, banjo, violin, and harmonica, which aren’t used in many other genres. “It tells a story that you can relate to in everyday life, and actually means something to those country folks out there,” she said. Another popular genre of music is Alternative music. It's a sub-genre of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s and 2000s. This music mostly contains the drums, electric guitar and the bass. “It's a little bit more chill and relaxing than other genres and I just really like the style,” sophomore Christina Romo said. Electronic pop/ Pop music consist more of upbeat songs and more layering of sounds, and is much more mainstream. It rarely has any instruments being used in the majority of the songs but sometimes does have a guitar being used. Only 7% of Bobcats surveyed said Pop is their favorite music. Sophomore Michael Mallory likes it because of the lively tempo that makes people get on their feet. “It's upbeat, energizing, and makes you wanna dance,” he said. 12% of KHS students said the really don’t prefer one genre over another, while 21% said they prefer Alternative Music. Other students said they don’t prefer one genre as long as they are able to dance to it. There are tons of different types of genres but the most listened to by the students was the rock and country music.
