Krum Famous
Krum is a very small town, but still has alumni that have gone on to do very remarkable things. Some of those alumni include Trevor Brazile, Jason Hamm, Chuck Hall and Ty Damron.
Trevor Brazile: Often referred to as the “Michael Jordan of rodeo”, Trevor Brazile is an American Rodeo Champion. Before he became famous, Brazile went to Krum High School where he played guard on two state champion basketball teams. By winning the All-Around, Steer Roping, and Tie-down Roping titles in 2007, he became the first cowboy since 1983 to win the rodeo triple crown. Brazile earned his first world title in 2002. He is a 23-time world champion and 13 time PRCA All-Around Cowboy World Champion. He is one of only 3 people to win more than one triple crown. That year he also broke his own single-season earnings record, winning $425,115, and by 2010 he was the highest-earning cowboy in the sport, with more than $3.5 million in lifetime winnings. Jason Hamm: Jason Hamm was a four year varsity starter, and an all-state basketball player in Krum. Hamm graduated from Krum High School in 1993. He then went on to Texas Tech, where he played basketball for the Red Raiders from 1993-1995. From 1995 to 1996, Hamm played at McMurry College. He then finished out his playing career from 1996 to 1998 at the University of South Alabama. During his time at the University of South Alabama, he and his team made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, commonly called “March Madness.” From there, they nearly pulled off a huge upset against Arizona, which would’ve secured them a spot in the Elite Eight. After his basketball playing career ended, Hamm knew that he wanted to continue with the sport as a coach. One of the biggest milestones in his career was when he became an assistant coach in the NBA. From 2002-2004, Jason Hamm was on the coaching staff with the Golden State Warriors. From there, he also had the opportunity to coach the Memphis Grizzlies and the Sacramento Kings. He is no longer coaching, but he will be remembered as one of the greats that originated in Krum. Chuck Hall: Chuck Hall was a student at Krum High school from 1976 to 1979. He has many accomplishments from his career as a high school basketball player. Currently, Chuck Hall is 4th on the Texas high school boys basketball all-time scoring list. He scored 3,550 points in his four years as a varsity player. While this is an amazing accomplishment, the three-point line was not yet introduced. With the addition of a three-point line, he could be higher up on that list. In the history of Texas high school boys basketball, there have been 80 players to be named an All-State player for three years. Chuck Hall is one of these players. He was named an All-State player in 1977, 1978, and 1979. He played college basketball at both McLennan College and Midwestern State University. He was a NAIA honorable mention All-American while scoring 1,060 points in his two seasons after transferring from McLennan College. He is currently the head girls basketball coach at Bowie High School. Ty Damron: Ty Damron graduated from Krum in 2013. During his senior year, Damron was the District 9-3A Pitcher of the Year. As an extremely talented left-handed pitcher, Damron made Krum history, being the first Krum athlete to sign with a Big 12 Conference school. After signing with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Damron was drafted in the 13th round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft, but turned down the offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers. He made nine appearances his freshman season at Tech, 12 as a sophomore, and helped to lead his team to Omaha and the College World Series. In 2016, Ty Damron was drafted in the 15th round to the Oakland A’s, but was later signed to a Minor League team, the Vermont Lake Monsters where he continues to play.
