Actors Take the Stage

Krum High School has had a theatre organization for a long time. UIL awards records indicate that Krum HS has had a theatre program for approximately 15 - 20 years. Students involved in theatre classes are required to cover course content related to theatre history and theory as well as practical content regarding bringing a show from pre-production into a live presentation. Theatre rehearsals include many activities necessary for the production of a play. These activities include: set design, staging measurements, lighting design and operation, sound design and operation, script analysis, physical and vocal character development, character relationship development, blocking/movement, character interpretation, setting and striking props and furniture, and other miscellaneous activities which we respond to as we encounter them. All kinds of students thrive in theatre. They need to have the willingness to commit to the production and to do their part to the best of their ability. The success of a production will depend on how well these diverse individuals can come together and collaborate with one another to accomplish the goal of producing a play. Roles in theatre are broken down into cast, crew, and alternate categories. People in the cast perform script interpretation, memorize lines, execute blocking, and carry out other activities associated with acting. People in the crew meet the technical needs of the production, especially as related to set pieces, properties, lighting, and sound. Alternates assist the cast and crew with miscellaneous tasks and memorize lines so-as to be able to substitute for an actor in case of emergency. A variety of people have participated in the different productions throughout this school year. “The KHS theatre company is presently working on a UIL One-Act Play for competition. We will be performing scenes from "Dramatis Personae" by Don Nigro,” said Drama teacher, Mr. Hammonds. “"Dramatis Personae" is a drama with comedic moments.” The story follows a large family who, after being separated for years, gather together in their childhood home to attend to their dying mother. Upon revisiting their childhood home, the family members begin to experience hauntings which remind them of a tragedy from years ago. Ultimately, the family finds they must learn to bond together and face their past before they can move on to better, brighter things in their lives. The themes of the show include the importance of personal histories and the process of becoming family. “ Theatre production schedules change from show to show; however, the people working on the play we are presently rehearsing meet every Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri from 4:30 - 6:30pm,.” Hammonds said. The cast presently includes: Kenzi Freeman.Tim Canter, Madison Lenhardt, Ashtyn Yancey, Montana Griffin, Samantha Vincent, Miriam Greer, Diego M. Gonzalez, Margot Molen, Mike Cosme, Justin Pierce. Our crew includes: Shelby Weckar, Maddyson Martin, Jair Flores-Rico, Isaiah Peterson, Matthew Medina. Alternates include: "Elmo" Ridgway, Alex Hire, Anslie Hernandez.
